Live Like a Pro!
Let's run with us!

It's more fun not only to walk together but also to run. Natalya Ivanova, product manager for refrigerators from Beko Moscow Office and the ideological inspirer of the Company's Running Club, is convinced of this.

The Running Club has been around for a year. It appeared in July 2020. And a little earlier, in February, Natalya herself appeared in the Company. Having acclimatized a bit, she decided to involve new colleagues into an interesting and healthy activity.

“I was in the Running Club at my previous job and I thought it would be nice to create something similar at Beko. Since March, we were all working in the remote mode and did not see each other, and we were all very tired of being within four walls. I wanted to have some joint activity together with my colleagues,” says Natalya.

Accept the challenge!

Natalia started by writing to HR Director Yelena Silchenkova. Yelena was ready to consider any idea aimed at making the employees continue to feel like a united team, even in remote conditions. She consulted with the CEO and said: "Great idea, let's launch a two-week running marathon".

Then Natalia invited a pacer. This is a person who motivates to run, teaches how to run correctly. This is both a coach and an inspirer at the same time. It was Olga Klenovskaya who won the first place among women in the Running Hearts Marathon at the distance of 42 km in 2019. At one of the weekly online meetings, she gave a presentation on running.

Later Natalya created a group chat on WhatsApp, invited all the Company's office employees from different cities; whoever wanted to - joined. She was also sending there training videos from the YouTube, articles on correct running techniques that are important to follow so as not to harm yourself.

The two-week marathon of running challenges included various kinds of tasks. For example, to run not fast but long (this is important for the development of fatigue resistance). Or there was a competition who would be the slowest in running (there is such a stereotype that running slowly is bad but it is not, and this stereotype needed to be eliminated). Or who would have a more stable pulse (the threshold was declared - not higher than 150 beats per minute, and this could be achieved by alternating between slow running and walking).

For participants the challenge took place in their streets or in the parks close to their houses. It was not safe even for those who lived in the same city to meet for jogging together.

If you force yourself to chase the pace or some goal that is beyond your current physical capabilities you might hate running after the first run. "I'm tired", "It's hard for me", "Why do we need all this, I will never run again" - you don't need to lead yourself to such thoughts!

In the regular mode

After the first challenge marathon had ended, it was decided to launch challenges every month. The number of participants was constantly changing - some people came, some people left.
"
It's obvious because running is not necessarily everyone's favourite activity. But we try, we discover ourselves, so this experience is not useless to anyone,” Natalya comments.

After running until November inclusively, the athletes took a break for winter, and this year they restarted jogging in May. Now monthly challenges are launched using the Nike Running mobile app, which sets the distance and the time to cover it.

"Not all the participants pass it but again, the main thing is participation and the fact that we are all together," Natalya supposes.

At the moment, the running challenges involve office employees from different regions and Moscow where Natalya lives. "I'd love to involve the factory as well. They have people there who jog and take part in all kinds of competitions. After all, we are one company and it would be interesting for us to unite," Natalya shares her plans. "It also brings people together to some extent: it is like a team-building event, constant team building. And the relationship built not only on working aspects helps at work: it becomes easier to communicate, negotiate, ask for help and help. Therefore, I strongly advise everyone to become a part of our Club".

Tanya Dumnova

Great team

During the activity of the Club, we have formed the community whose members share not only information about their running successes but also other achievements. For example, they can send a photo of a medal from a hockey game to the chat.

"All the participants are very interesting guys,” says Natalya. Max Chekashov is engaged in ice hockey, Anton Kashirin plays basketball, Kirill Klimov and Volodya Volkov are football players, Kirill Vetrov is engaged in fitness, Olya Kholodkova - in martial arts and stretching, and Katya Pugacheva goes in for boxing. We have very experienced runners. For example, Orhan Sayman went in for track and field athletics, Tanya Dumnova ran semi-marathons and Anya Gushchina already ran two trails of 30 km each. There are people who try to run from time to time, for example Marina Pak. Lera Kozlova has just started but she is so tough that she can run 15 kilometers at + 30 °C. And there are those who go jogging with their whole families, for example, Alexey Zarudnev".

Natalia's personal running experience is three years. She is a 100% amateur, not a professional athlete. And her experience proves that it is not necessary to be an athlete at all.

"Running for me is about enjoying the movement, refreshing your head, breaking out of the routine and raising your spirits. I can even take breaks and not run for a month because other priorities appear. But then I always return to running with pleasure.

If you have no counter-indications try at least once to run at a slow pace listening to your favourite music, in good weather, and you will see that running is cool!"
