Symbiosis is the great thing!
In one of the issues of the magazine, we wrote about how connections are built between living organisms in nature. One type of interaction is symbiosis. In human relationships it means cooperation, association, synergy. In symbiosis, both parties benefit. In this article we would like to give an example of such cooperation between the environmental, energy efficiency and environmental safety departments of the Beko and IHP plants.
This year, several on-site meetings of groups of environmentalists and energy experts from our factories took place to discuss opportunities to learn from experience. The first meeting discussed the use of rainwater in production, as well as the use of energy efficient practices. During the second meeting, a cross-audit in the field of educating the ecology and environmental protection took place. Teams from the cities of Kirzhach and Lipetsk familiarized themselves with the activities of the enterprises, identified areas for improvement at the guest plant, and also identified best practices to implement at their home enterprise. Our colleagues shared their impressions with us.
Visit of the Kirzhach group to the IHP plant
– A team of power engineers from the Beko plant traveled to Lipetsk in April of this year. We studied the experience of our colleagues in collecting and using rain and melt water in production, which allows us to significantly reduce the consumption of artesian water or not use it at all. This practice has been used in Lipetsk for quite some time. Water is collected through roof drains into special tanks, settled, filtered and distributed throughout the workshops of both enterprises. The water goes through three stages of filtration, so the process is very reliable. At Beko we are planning to implement a similar project, so we decided to visit our colleagues, learn from them and then apply this experience ourselves. The possibility of implementing the project is currently being discussed. Everything needs to be carefully thought out and calculated. Our area is not the same as in Lipetsk; there are territorial restrictions here. It is also interesting to know what they did at the plant in Lipetsk to prevent the water in the tanks from freezing in winter.

It was my first time at a production facility in Lipetsk, and I really liked how clearly all the processes were organized. The areas and premises are very clean. Teams of power engineers have broad competencies in the field of setup and programming; they are specialists of the highest level of professionalism. Now they are developing new projects, the goal of which is to prevent heat loss in factory premises. This is also a very interesting direction, there is something to learn and adopt.

Grapes grow in the IHP area
Elena Koniaeva,
ecologist, IHP, Lipetsk:

– At the beginning of July, colleagues from Kirzhach – specialists from the labor protection, ecology and production development departments – came to our plant for the second time. Together we inspected the production sites of refrigerator and washing machine plants, the state of the equipment in the aspect of labor protection, and exchanged opinions on how our factories are similar and how they differ. My colleague from Kirzhach noted that we had a well-managed separate waste collection. But we know that we still have some way to go. Under an agreement with a contractor, the production waste is taken from us, which we separate by type, sorted and removed. For part of the waste that can be classified as recyclable, such as waste paper or polyethylene, the plants make a profit, and for the removal and disposal of the other part they pay. An environmentalist at an enterprise deals not only with waste, but also with solving a wide range of secondary problems that arise during production, and analyzes the results of monitoring factors that could have an impact on the environment. From what was implemented this year, we can highlight the passage of a recertification audit for compliance with ISO 14001. Also, due to the fact that the plants joined the Arçelik company, we implemented greenhouse gas reporting, and in this regard, interaction with the "Beko" plant environmentalist who mastered this toolkit in full was very important. The same applies to waste reports. The fact is that the concepts of hazardous and non-hazardous waste in Russia and Europe are somewhat different, so we had to master a new reporting format and a new classifier. It’s good that we have the opportunity to coordinate this activity with our colleagues from Beko.
Meeting of Kirzhach and Lipetsk groups on energy efficiency
Aliya Gilmullina,
environmental engineer at Beko, city of Kirzhach:

– Despite the fact that we produce the same types of products, our plants are very different from each other, and therefore it is impossible to implement uniform standards for some areas. But there is something that unites us, and something in which we can be useful to each other.
On our first trip we became familiar with the water management system. I was surprised that a rainwater collection and purification system was provided for during the design of the enterprise. I didn’t even think that some Russian industries started using rainwater already in the 90s. Arçelik came to this a little later. I also really liked the protective barriers on the floor around the injection molding machines and the recycling of oil. I hope we can apply these practices at our plant.

I went to Lipetsk as a member of both groups. The IHP plant is part of a conglomerate of large city enterprises. It is very beautiful here, a unique natural-industrial landscape - well-groomed flower beds, trees and even grapes. I had only positive emotions from visiting the Lipetsk plant.

And I am glad that we have colleagues with whom we can discuss issues related to compliance with the law. The combined experience allows us to solve problems much faster and more efficiently.
