Ruchkhan Vural, head of the Beko research and development department in Russia, moved to our country quite recently - eight months ago. We asked him about his plans, projects and what he liked in Russia.
– Please tell us a little about yourself and your career path. How did you get involved with Beko? – I was born in 1979 in Mugla in Turkey. In 2002 graduated from Dokuz Eylul University in Izmir with a degree in mechanical engineering. After many years of working in R&D for other home appliance manufacturers, in 2017 I started working in the Arçelik Washing Machine Research and Development Department. In February 2022, I was appointed Head of Washing Machine Research and Development Department at Arçelik in Manisa. And in January 2023, became working as the Head of Washing Machine Research and Development Department at the Beko LLC. I'm married and have a daughter.
– When did you move to Russia and how did you decide to move? – I moved in February 2023. I decided to test myself with new challenges and new living conditions. And, of course, I didn’t want to lose the opportunity to get acquainted with Russian culture. It was also important for me to meet the company's requirements.
– What do you think about Russians and Russian culture? What were your expectations before you came here and how realistic? – Russians are very tolerant and friendly towards representatives of other cultures. I suppose that this feature is very important for country development; it moves the economy forward. I, of course, was familiar with the key facts of Russian history before I moved here, but I knew almost nothing about cultural features, so I had not any special expectations.
– What achievements in the company are you most proud of? – I completed the projects of my own production of Prologue and Beyond panels within the deadlines established for mass production. I also managed to reduce the number of possible errors in production. I think this is owing to my efforts to join together the engineering and R&D teams. When they work with the product together, everyone looks at it from their own perspective and so we can see much more complete picture.
After eight months of intensive work, the drying machine project will be ready for mass production. Alongside with it, we received approval to launch mass production of the Beyond front panel in May without any delay. We will complete our own production of the Prologue front panel partially in August-September and completely in October. My two other projects are our own production of P50/E502 models (8–9 kg) and the introduction of BM.
– How do you cope with such a scope of work? How many people does your team include now? How do you usually motivate them? – Now I have 13 colleagues. I try to communicate with them more personally. At the beginning of the summer, we organized an event with the research and development (R&D) and quality assurance (QA) teams to improve communication levels. At such meetings, I share with them the goals of our projects; understanding the final goal motivates employees.
– What do you expect from them? – I would like if they become more demanding of improving their technical knowledge.
“
What do you think are the secrets of a successful leader? Communication with the team and all other departments is very important. Success is the teamwork. And the proper time management, of course.
– What personal qualities we benefit in your career? – I have enough technical knowledge, but I do not miss any opportunity to learn even more technical information. I also know how to focus on several tasks at the same time.
– What are the secrets of a successful leader? – Communication with the team and all other departments is very important. Success is the teamwork. And the proper time management, of course.
– Please, can you tell us about new models of washing and drying machines. How many models are developed? – E470WD has two panels. 1200 RPM and 1400 RPM models have a Beyond front panel. Both machines can wash 7.5 kg and dry 5 kg of laundry.
– How do you test it ? General criteria – After trial production, we test the machines in our mechanical and operational laboratories. We determined the types of tests together with ÇMİ R&D, ÇMİ QA and Beko LLC R&D. We sent some machines to ÇMİ R&D department and quality control department for special testing. Our project is included in the NPI system. After the machines passed technical critical tests, we began field testing - sent a number of machines to public places (dormitories and hospitals) and special clients to get their feedback.
– How do you use 3D modeling? – We use 3D in all projects. First of all, to anticipate problems with machines in mass production. And also, to determine these modifications and launch new projects (P50/E502, Hotpoint-POEM, Prologue) of our own design, etc. Using 3D, we check the data, determine if there is a difference between the mold, part, 3D parts and ÇMİ parts.
– Has your daily life changed a lot since you moved to Kirzhach? - Yes, changed a lot/. I usually spend a lot of time with my family, but my family stayed in Turkey. Now, mostly in my spare time, I travel to Moscow and surrounding cities, learn Russian, but in general I am focused on work.
– What are your plans for the end of this year? – I would like to learn Russian. We are also intended to start mass production of drying machines according to the project and launch the P50/E502 and Hotpoint-POEM projects. At the end of this year we will receive the first trial parts and then project works will begin. And, of course, launch the Beyond C7S panel project into our own production.
