"In 2014, I had to move to Russia from Donetsk region where I worked in the coal industry as a mechanic of a mining site. In December of the same year I got a job at Beko Company in the production of washing machines. There, as an engineer, the main tasks were to ensure the uninterrupted operation of the line, timely repair and maintenance of equipment, ordering spare parts – in general, duties familiar from my former place of work where I was also responsible for equipment for five years, only, of course, another one. But if, in general, I am used to solving such issues, making plans for preventive work, developing schedules, then it is not so difficult to retrain and master new production processes. The company had to pay more attention to reducing defects, reducing the cost of various materials: for example, to solve the issue of replacing expensive imported oil with a cheaper Russian analogue.
Four years later, I was offered to move to the powder coating workshop, also as an engineer but with better prospects for career growth. Again, I had to learn a lot, the technologies were completely new to me: knowledge of chemistry, not mechanics is more required in painting, this is primarily working with powders and various chemical reagents. The process of powder coating itself is quite complicated, so I constantly had to improve my knowledge, master something new, unusual. In addition, now I had to be responsible for two separate production lines: painting the parts for refrigerators and for washing machines.
I worked in this workshop for three years and, frankly, I thought that if I was promoted they would offer to move to another job site. However, I was offered the extension of my duties here, on the spot, in our internal cycle – but now another line was added to my workshop. The line for painting the condenser grids for refrigerators was added, new tasks appeared and the workload increased. The familiar duties – setting up equipment, ordering spare parts and so on – were supplemented with the issues of improving the working conditions, the life of workers, creating more comfortable conditions at work. There are more people in subordination – both responsibility and workload have grown. We have to divide tasks into those requiring immediate solutions and longer ones, which cannot be postponed but they are performed longer and do not require so much concentration and constant attention.
