Shimul Abu Naim: "We choose eco-friendly development"
Every year talented young professionals join Beko. Today we would like to introduce our new Environmental Engineer, Shimul Abu Naim. He is a national of Bangladesh and is a graduate student at the Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas. And he will be in charge of environmental issues at the Beko plant with the team of Chief Engineer.
- Naim, what attracted you to environmental work?
- Ecology as a science is multidimensional, it includes almost all natural science disciplines - physics, chemistry, biology, and mathematics. It never stopped surprising me. So I opted for a bachelor's degree in geography and environment after school, and then went on to get a master's degree in environmental geology.
- What is your opinion of what Beko is doing in the field of ecology and environmental protection?
- When I joined Beko, I immediately noticed that production meets all environmental standards, nature-saving technologies are implemented, environmental stewardship is practiced, and environmental volunteering is ongoing. Beko has accomplished a lot in the area of sustainability, and this motivates me to achieve more in the future.

- What are your immediate priorities as an Environmental Engineer?
- My main task at the moment is to raise awareness of environmental safety among the company's employees. The most important projects to be implemented at the site in the coming year are the upgrade of our wastewater treatment facilities, which will improve the efficiency of water recycling.
- How does the interaction with Lipetsk IHP plants go? What practices can be taken from them?
- We cooperate with our IHP colleagues on various issues on a regular basis. So far, my experience of interacting with colleagues has consisted of discussing best environmental practices related to waste management. We will of course try to cooperate more actively with the IHP team on environmental issues in the future, as their environmental conditions are most similar to ours.
- What would you say are Beko's global environmental goals?
- Beko makes it a priority to reduce hazardous and non-hazardous waste, greenhouse gas emissions, and the consumption of water and other resources. And it is no coincidence that our company was ranked 44th in the first-ever ranking of the world's greenest companies by the TIME magazine and research company Statista for 2024.
We have ambitious environmental goals, and we are pursuing them step by step. For instance, by the end of 2030, we will try to achieve a 42% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. And, of course, that's not our only challenge. We are committed to preserving the beauty and well-being of this world for future generations.
