No question should be unanswered!
Now you have a place where you can ask about anything and get an answer from a real expert. Anonymously, simply, and with the guarantee that you'll be heard. What kind of questions? Any kind: from property and travel to health and gardening. The very first question is about the garden.
What are the key factors to consider when planning vegetable beds at a dacha?
– Not every spot will do for a vegetable bed, says Materials Planning Specialist Victoria Popova. What to look out for is easy to remember: just look up, down, left, and right. Up: sunlight, which plants can't do without. No trees or buildings should block it. So first, check light levels. Now look down: what's the soil like? Is it fertile enough? If it isn't, and it usually isn't, you'll need to add fertiliser. Not right before planting, though. Well in advance. If your plot has sandy or clay soil, it's better not to waste time digging and amending it. Build raised beds and fill them with ready-made growing compost instead. Keep looking down and study the slope of the land: if there's an incline, run your beds perpendicular to it for even watering.
Now for left and right. Look at what's growing in neighbouring beds. Never plant onions next to beans; they inhibit each other. Potatoes and tomatoes are bad companions too, since they share the same diseases. And to stop the soil becoming exhausted, rotate your crops every year: cucumbers, for instance, do well where cabbage grew before.

And don't forget practicality: your beds should be laid out so that watering, tending, and harvesting are easy for you.
